Meta started her legal career working on insolvency disputes, advising insolvency practitioners, directors and debtors facing claims from liquidators or trustees. She gained valuable experience in managing trading businesses whilst working for one of the big four insolvency practitioners, and has successfully grown the commercial litigation and insolvency team. She is now head of Civil and Commercial Litigation, managing various teams.
In terms of insolvency related disputes Meta's experience includes :-
Presenting and defending bankruptcy petitions and winding up petitions.
TOLATA claims in bankruptcy include very complex constructive trust and beneficial interest claims involving vulnerable occupants.
Bringing and defending preference actions.
Bringing and defending transaction at undervalue claims and S423 fraudulent transaction claims.
Acting for creditors in defending applications/appeals and annulments.
Acting for Liquidators in misfeasance claims against directors and on complex wrongful and fraudulent trading.
Meta also has experience in multi-jurisdictional litigation across the US, UAE, and India where she has built some close connections. She has advised on fraud, business disputes, directors/shareholder disputes and contract/equitable disputes. Meta prides herself in being able to simplify the detail on cases which can often be challenging for clients.
Having utilised her networking skills she has branched out into Group Litigation work. She is working on Business Energy secret commission claims, Pension claims, PPI car finance claims, and has knowledge of the legal intricacies involved in these areas. These cases come with funding and ATE insurance. Meta has strong contacts with funders and insurers, but also has a sound understanding of how to strategically set up projects involving funders. The litigation funding market is evolving and Meta has been able to use innovative ideas to secure funding on cases, allowing access to pursue cases which often face barriers on funding.
