Inquest Solicitors

We are a leading law firm for inquests and inquest law.

Our specialist lawyers advise and represent family members in inquest proceedings and we also advise companies, organisations and individuals called as witnesses or whose conduct is being considered as part of the inquest.

We also advise on civil or criminal law claims that may arise as a result of evidence at the inquest and it's findings. We are accredited legal aid lawyers.

    Our experience with inquests

We will help you to get to the truth. Obtaining the right evidence can lead to further subsequent legal action or claims, including civil claims for damages for negligence or breach of statutory obligations. Our experience includes:

    • Inquests where someone has died while in prison

    • Deaths in police custody where concerns may relate to restraint, or lack of medical attention

    • Inquests where medical negligence may have occurred

    • Death whilst the deceased was under the care of mental health providers

    • Suspicions and concerns about a death whilst in hospital care

    • Deaths during Immigration detention

Rights of relatives in the inquest process

The inquest rules provide that a wide variety of blood relatives are classified as "interested persons". As an interested person, you have rights to take part in the inquest process which include:

    • The right to be notified about the inquest date, time and place

    • To cross examine witnesses

    • To see relevant documents put into evidence before the Coroners Court

    • To make legal submissions on points of law or process and to be advised about any legal directions the Coroner gives to the jury

    • The right to a copy of the Coroner's findings

     Judicial Review

A judicial review is a way to challenge the decision of a public body. It is a means of a last resort where no other remedy is available. We advise and represent clients on legal options where there are concerns about the inquest findings.
